ABOUT DR. Rahim Nazerali

Dr. Nazerali is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at Stanford University where he specializes in complex reconstruction, microsurgery, and aesthetic and cosmetic surgery. He completed his fellowship in Microvascular and Complex Reconstruction at Stanford University in 2014 and did his General Surgery/Plastic Surgery combined residency at the University of California, Davis. He holds an MD from Brown University and a Masterʼs of Health Science from Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Nazerali focuses his practice on free tissue transfer, post-traumatic and oncologic surgery as well as general plastic surgery. He specializes in breast reconstruction, and lower extremity reconstruction and routinely performs abdominal wall reconstruction for the Department of Surgery. For every patient in his care, his goal is to optimize the restoration of both form and function. In his reconstructive practice, Dr. Nazerali routinely performs advanced microsurgical techniques such as the minimally invasive superficial inferior epigastric artery (SIEA) flap, as well as the deep inferior epigastric artery perforator (DIEP) flap procedure for breast reconstruction. Dr. Nazerali utilizes the latest techniques and his results have made him a leading instructor and lecturer at national and international institutions, societies, and conferences. To help advance the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery, Dr. Nazerali conducts research into the outcomes of breast surgery, hernia surgery, and general plastic surgery. Dr. Nazerali has published widely: well over 100 journal articles and conference proceedings. Topics include advances in surgical technique; breast reconstruction outcomes; abdominal wall surgery and outcomes; and, the use of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality systems in plastic surgery practice and education. His work has appeared in Surgery, Annals of Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Annals of Plastic Surgery, the European Journal of Plastic Surgery, the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, the American Journal of Clinical Oncology, and elsewhere. Dr. Nazerali focuses not only on improving his patientʼs lives but also on our ability to deliver care as an institution. He is on the Medical Executive Council at Stanford Healthcare, serves on three committees with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and is part of the Executive Committee and the Scientific Committee with the California Society of Plastic Surgeons. In his spare time, he volunteers his time to provide reconstructive surgical services to adults and children in need worldwide.
